LINDSBORG— The Bethany College Athletic Department announces the hiring of Larry Holmes Jr. as the Interim Head Tennis coach for the Swedes.

"The Bethany tennis program has a tradition of excellence and I look forward to Coach Holmes continuing that tradition," Swedes' Director of Athletics, Dane Pavlovich said.

Holmes comes to Bethany with over 20 years of coaching experience. From 2007-2017, Holmes was the teaching tennis pro at Kiawnis Recreation Center in the City of Tempe, Ariz. In addition to this, Holmes was the boy's head tennis coach at Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, Ariz. from 2010-2017.

From 2014-2016, Holmes was the head men's and women's tennis coach at Benedictine University at Mesa, located in Mesa, Ariz. Holmes has a background in other racquet sports as well as he was the head girl's badminton coach at Mountain Pointe High School in 2013.

Before his time in Arizona, Holmes was a tennis counselor at Naval Academy Tennis Camp in Annapolis, Md. from 2003-2013. From 1996-2003, Holmes was a senior tennis instructor and assistant director at YMCA of Greater Rochester New York.

"I'm excited to be a part of Swede Nation and I can't wait to continue to build upon the rich tradition that Bethany College has," Holmes said. "My goal is for both the men's and women's program to consistently compete for KCAC title and make the national tournament championships."

Holmes has a Bachelor of Science in physical education and sport management from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C.
