A travel called on the Conquistadors gave the Hesston Larks a shot to tie or win the game, but that shot fell short and the Dodge City Conquistadors beat the Hesston Larks 84-82 Saturday night.

The travel, called with 1.9 seconds left as a Conquistadors play fell backward while fielding a defensive rebound, nearly allowed the Larks to tie the game despite what was a 16-point halftime lead.

Conquistador sophomores Justice Dixon and Jyrus Freels each had team-highs of 16 points. Freels had a double-double, recording a game-highs in total rebounds, with 14 and defensive rebounds with 11. Freshman Joe Petrakis had 12 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Kevin Howard had 10 points and eight rebounds. Dixon had six rebounds of his own.

Dixon also had a game-high five assists.

The Conqs now head on the road for three straight games, facing Lee College in Texas Nov. 20, Grayson College also in Texas, and Independence back in Kansas before returning home Dec. 1 to take on Neosho. That game is scheduled for 3 p.m in the Student Activity Center.
