TOPEKA — James Joseph Jokerst, 92, passed away Nov. 14, 2018 at Midland Hospice House. James was born May 23, 1926, in Waco, Neb., to Charles and Magdelena Schilly Jokerst. James married the love of his life, Irene Messiaen, on Aug. 25, 1947, in Omaha, Neb., at St. Mary Catholic Church. Together, they had three children.

James graduated from high school in York, Neb. He served in the United States Army, where he was stationed at the Panama Canal. He worked for Minneapolis Moline and Gehl Manufacturing Company for over 30 years. James was a member St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, Salina, for over 40 years.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ireene Jokerst; children, Kathy Ellison (John), of Topeka, Mike Jokerst, of Topeka, and Judy Dipman, of Topeka; grandchildren, Corey Dipman, of Quinter, Shawna Camargo, of Topeka, Amber Dipman, of Topeka, and Brenna North, of Topeka; and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: parents; three brothers; and seven sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Topeka. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 9 a.m. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
