A brick was thrown through the front door of Innovations Dental Laboratory, 510 E. Iron, and a man was seen entering the building, but nothing appeared to be taken, said Capt. Paul Forrester of the Salina Police Department.
Forrester said the 51-year-old owner of the business told police he earlier had been approached by a man he recognized while sitting in his car in the parking lot at about 5:40 p.m. Monday. The man wielded a pocket knife and demanded the owner empty his pockets, Forrester said, but the owner talked him out of it and the man walked away.
At about 6:15 p.m., Forrester said a witness at the nearby Save-A-Lot grocery store spotted the same man breaking the glass on the front door of the dental lab with a brick. The man entered the building but left a few minutes later empty-handed. He might have gotten into a silver truck and drove from the scene, Forrester said, but the witness was unsure.
Forrester said police have identified a possible suspect. Damage to the door was $600.
